I see your point but there is great value in picking the moments and the means by which to communicate. It might just be that the local forum for a suburb like Chiswick is not the ideal battle ground. I think, on the whole, people are becoming more aware that our leaders and the corporate entities that are shaping our lives and society do not have the best interests of the people at heart. I think more people are questioning the validity of words like civilized or democracy. I think the lines between so-called good and evil are becoming increasingly blurred and so it becomes more and more difficult to see which side of those lines 'we' stand on. Ironically, in your attempt to make people see, what is stirred up is yet more conflict. The need to make people see things the same way as you do is another form of violence, albeit mental. Are politicians and media outlets not trying the same tactic? To force us to see things through their eyes? To bludgeon us with lies until we swallow them whole? The truth is far more subtle than that. The truth doesn't require force. In today's age of media and marketing, unfortunately, the manner in which the message is delivered almost matters more than the message itself. If you want people to take you seriously then I have to say, a different tact might be in order. I respect your drive to make people see the bigger picture, or at least the same picture from a different perspective but if it truly matters to you then it might be worth rethinking your approach. I personally do not read the news, nor do I watch TV. I realised a long time ago that all media has a hidden agenda. That propaganda is not limited to war time. That our culture and society in general has a tendency to cultivate some of the worst aspects of human nature. So rather than bang my head against a wall and try to make everyone see this, i went out into the world and tried to make every interaction count. To change the world from where I stood, as little as that may seem to be. As Ghandi said, we must be the change we want to see in the world. |
