Let us say, Pete, for the sake of argument, that you had a mentally disabled relative. Let us say, again for the sake of argument, that I found the presence of this person embarrassing in a public place. I didn't know where to look, you see, and didn't like having to avert my gaze. I would much prefer you to keep your mentally disabled relative at home, so that I wouldn't have to feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. Were I to object to you bringing your relative out in public, the law would quite rightly be on your side and back you. The law would say that my awkwardness and embarrassment was my problem, and I should just deal with it and keep sschtum. |
