"Needing" to import them isn't the premise. These dogs' plights are posted on a European Facebook page (Puppies Available For Rehoming, Rescue Or Adoption in UK / Europe) and offers of fostering and/or adoption come from wherever/whoever can help. A huge amount of these dogs, such as those in Romania face cruelty and torture beyond your worst imaginings where dogs are offered no protection by the law (quite the contrary in fact) and are routinely poisoned, run over, shot at and left to starve or freeze to death in the snow at the end of a chain. The problem isn't having enough strays here already, it's about lack of breeding regulations, responsible ownership, and people choosing to buy, not adopt. |
