Oddly enough,I've had a similar letter from G4S (on behalf of Scottish Power) informing me that my gas meter had 'reached the end of its usable life' and needed replacing, which they would do free of charge. I too felt that it was a bit suspicious, especially the requirement for access to the house since our gas meter is outside. Having seen this thread, I've just checked with Scottish Power, who assure me that the letter is genuine and I that should go ahead and book an appointment. My letter states that the reason for the change is that 'industry commitments means that we need to exchange your meter when it reaches a certain age...'.
I feel safe enough now to book an appointment for the exchange. |
