I started feeding a young stray a few days ago with the intention of trapping it and taking to the vet to see if it had a chip. Yesterday, I discovered she has a litter of kittens hidden away. So, I feed her several times a day and she comes every time I call her. I would guess she is not feral but an abandoned or lost pet. It seems all the shelters are full. I know HAWS are full up at the moment so I haven't asked them. Mayhew said "An animal officer will contact me within 3 days" but my experience with them is if they do get back it is usually several days later and then they do nothing. I emailed Cats Protection and am waiting to hear back. RSPCA - I won't even go there with my comments. Battersea said they would put me on a list and call me back. (I am not holding my breath.) Does anyone have any more suggestions? Are there any other shelters out there that might take her in? The thought of that little cat out in the cold and rain with kittens living a pile of rubble is very distressing especially on a night like tonight with these fireworks - and more to come. |
