So, before these wonderful"consultant led"24 hour trauma centres were established, if you were unfortunate enough to have an accident, an ambulance would arrive, load you up and whisk you off to the nearest A+E.On arrival a team of doctors and nurses would do a full examination, blood tests, x-rays and possibly CT or CAT scans.Full blood screens and gasses and check you physically for signs of injuries. After this, they would have some idea how badly injured you were, and what would be the best way to treat those injuries.Apparently, now it will be upto the paramedics on the ambulance to assess how badly injured you are, and decide where you should go for treatment. So apparently 58 people have had their lives saved that probably would have died without treatment at one of these centres.I foresee many more than this dying from having their Facebook injuries misdiagnosed by a paramedic. What is the point of a fabulous consultant led 24 hour trauma centre when it is left to the ambulance crew to decide who goes there for treatment. It just doesn't make sense.Does it ? |
