"Why not Chelsea & Westmister, Charing X, Hammersmith, even Ealing would be quicker. Or are St Mary's the only head trauma A +E now ?" St Mary's has been one of the four major trauma centres in London since 2010, "which have been set up to deal with the most severely injured and offer 24-hour consultant-led care. ... [In the first year of the scheme,] the lives of 58 people, who would probably have died before the units were established, have been saved under the regime, a report has said. The system works by ferrying the ill to these major centres, often passing the nearest, non-specialised hospital en-route." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-15312254 |
