I was at a friend's house when they had there drained cleared because it was blocked. It turned out to be toilet wipes which were marked 'flushable' on the packaging. Cotton ear buds and baby wipes and hair amongst other things when mixed with solidified fat make a sort of concrete... We used to use hair mixed with earth in the building of houses in times gone by. I'm surprised that there isn't more regulation - as if life doesn't have enough - but it always seemed to me that the kitchen waste disposal unit was the ideal solution for flats in particular in dealing with potentially smelly food waste. You'd expect the water companies to be able to capitalise on this. |
