Jackie - Haws do not have any cattery premises - all rescues are placed with foster carers in their own home apart from when we are really hectic in the summer when they might be boarded for a short time at local vets until a foster home comes free. I appreciate that I'm going off topic here because HAWs can't take in JoJo's cat but.... Animal rescue centres will vaccinate and spay all animals that come into them, will treat any medical conditions and in HAWs case will home check all potential adopters. Checks are made that the adopters have thought this through, are prepared for potential costs and will provide a safe environment for their animals. With Gumtree you don't really know who you are dealing with, in either direction of the deal. At a minimum I would hope the purchaser would go and see the animal in its "home" environment and I admit I'd have less issue with a situation such as this being used to place a lost cat. And as for people adopting kittens unseen through Gumtree... well, that's a whole different rant. |
