| Why has nobody answered Pete here? The way I see it: (1) Our allies the Saudis have been paying for all this Sunni extremism all along, as they REALLY REALLY HATE the Shia (2) Now they realise they've gone a bit far, and that in time their nasty creation of ISIL will come back and grab them by the throat too. (3) Even though they've got 700 planes in their airforce (yes 700!) they find it easier and cheaper to let the Americans and now us (and even the French for goodness sake) to do the hard stuff. (4) The Saudis dislike and despise us too, but we are for them "useful idiots", for now; they'll let a few atrocities happen here now to help concentrate all of our minds - Bombay style attacks, beheadings, that kinda thing. ISIL may have small willies (how do you know anyway?), but they've sure got big choppers. So - Pete - our 6 Tornadoes are neither here nor there, not least as it's quite hard satisfactorily to bomb 30,000 people spread out over an area of desert the size of the UK. ISIL are a bunch of evil murderers, and I'd be all in favour of obliterating them, specially the ones from Bradford/Smallheath/Slough, but just I don't think it's going to work like that. |
