"conversations with my mum re working in a munitions factory during the war in Birmingham you dealt with it yourself" My rather straight-laced grandfather was shocked by the initiation 'ceremonies' inflicted on young men/boys by the female work force in the War Factory in Chesham where he started his working life aged 14, in 1917. I remember him being very keen to 'mark my card' when I first began working in factories aged 16. |
