I too have been publicly groped by a woman in public before.Back in 1982 I was working for Securicor on their cash in transit vans. The company had a contract to deliver pay packets to the employees of Westminster council. This was when BACS was virtually unheard of and most people got a pay packet containing cash on a thursday or friday. On this particular day I was delivering pay packets to school caretakers and housing estate odd job men etc.One of my drops were to the attendants in the public toilets at Sloane Square I successfully delivered the wages to the mens toilets, then walked round to the ladies and started to walk down the steps.Midway down the steps I passed a tall brunette woman.Just as I grew level with her, she just put her hand out and grabbed a handful as she went past. She never looked at me or said anything, she just carried on walking.I don't know if she was attracted to the uniform, or just did it for a giggle.I must admit I was quite shocked, but my first response wasn't to shout out for police, or collapse on the floor in shock, I just had a little chuckle to myself and carried on.I can honestly say I have not felt at all traumatised in the years since, and if the woman was identified to me today, I certainly wouldn't call for her to be jailed.I would ask her why she had done it, but that is only out of curiosity.I say again that I think sexual assault is a despicable crime which should be severely punished, but I do think the sentance should bear some resemblance to the severity of the assault, and I don't think putting someone inside for inappropriately touching someone on their outer clothing |
