| So Francis, how much time and how many days did you spend observing numbers of cyclists at peak times last week (8am and 6pm)? I'll take what the data says for all journeys over your flimsy anecdotes. A problem with your hypothesis about drivers taking alternative routes is the A4 also shows a decline in traffic. A whole range of reasons are likely to be responsible. ULEZ, increased work from home following Covid, maybe Elizabeth line taking some journeys off the roads. Census data shows ongoing decline in car ownership in the area. The closure of Hammersmith bridge has shown that all the traffic wasn't displaced elsewhere indicating a lot of car journeys are discretionary. Making driving and/or parking more difficult will mean drivers re-evaluating their choice of transport. |
