| I know you hate observed evidence but I'd say that C9 was just as busy this weekend as it is during the weekday morning peaks. I am also regularly on the road at those times and so it was remarkable how many people were using it. The key reason seems to be hire biker riders adapting to the 'Lime bike shock'. They make up a smaller part of the ridership during the week. While I can't confirm your figures on weekday morning peak usage, it would certainly make sense as cyclists make quicker progress at that time (although a flexible attitude to lights is required). However, I would note that however busy the cycle lane was this weekend, there would have been more people passing me on buses rather than bikes (around ten buses went either way so even assuming a low occupancy of 10 per bus) that was considerably higher. When Sadiq Khan's weekend bus hopper is introduced, weekend ridership on local routes should increase alot with some people switching from relatively pricey hire bikes. |
