| Comparing the electorate for the Chiswick Hounslow wards between 2022 and 2026, Riverside electorate increased by 8% while Gunnersbury and Homefields increased by 2%. (Electorate meaning the people eligible to vote not the numbers who actually voted) When the ward boundaries were redrawn prior to the 2022 election, Riverside took in some of the new developments beside Brentford stadium (not all, some are in Brentford East). In 2022, I don’t think anyone had yet moved into the new developments. Now there are people living there and this may explain the large increase in electorate for Riverside. If these new residents are a different demographic compared to the E side of the S Circular, this may explain the Conservatives losing another Cllr. The electoral commission reviewed Hounslow wards prior to the 2022 election. Chiswick was over-represented in terms of electorate per Cllr as the population of other area of Hounslow had grown and Chiswick hadn't grown. Options were to keep the existing Chiswick ward boundaries and lose a Cllr or expand the ward boundaries into Brentford and retain 9 Cllrs. I understand the Conservatives lobbied for the latter. |
