| quite a lot of the discussion here is devoid of facts. So called family voting was seen by volunteers for an outside body with tie to the Liberal Democrats. They were given permission to be in the polling station by the electoral commission. They cannot intervene merely make notes. Their observations do not include that which is actually going on in polling booths. When you are managing a polling station someone comes to vote and will ask to take someone in to help them. This may be down to disability as with sight difficulties, literacy as they cannot read or ill health. The term Family Voting was coined to describe situations where abusive or controlling husbands went with their wives and made them vote the way the husband wanted them to vote. It has "nothing "to do with families or groups of people and certainly nothing to do with the Asian community as some racist comments here have said. 2 people are not a family it should be a different term. The people working the polling stations on the election days are full time council staff given the opportunity if extra pay. Any one of them found to be colluding with any illegality will be sacked and will not be employed by any council and lose their pensions so it is not in their interest to do it All of this will be investigated by the Electoral Commission and it will be made clear. |
