| Wow Philippa, you twist yourself in so many knots it’s a wonder you can walk in straight line. Shall I spell it out for you? You raised the issue of government cuts to councils. We’ve heard about it for years. Then immediately after the 2022 elections Ealing councillors gave themselves a massive allowance increase. No reason other than they thought they deserved it. Then we are told for four years that cuts need to be made to frontline services, including closing children’s centres across the borough. Then these same councillors award themselves another big allowance hike last year. Meanwhile council tax increases year on year. Can you not see the flaw in their logic? If there’s not much money don’t take it for yourself. But then they are ‘socialists’, so that’s expected. MPs have nothing to do with this. That’s just a distraction you threw in. Even so, given the Mandelson scandal you can’t claim any party has moral high ground. And yes, every road user - vehicle, bike or pedestrian - has a duty of care to others. Nobody disputes that. Oh, and under the cross Traffic Act 1984 it’s illegal for local authorities to use parking schemes or parking fines as revenue stream. That makes it a tax. Case law upheld this principle. |
