We had friends do this a couple of years ago. The first thing (none of us thought about) that caught them out was ULEZ and LEZ (it was an older camper). A fair few fines found their way to our friend's home in Spain. Parking was a similar hassle and they ended up staying in a site around Chertsey. They did try parking up in non-controlled areas only for the residents to get quite angry about the situation. Perhaps tell them to check out the many Reddit and Facebook groups on the subject.
