The sewage from north, central and west London all goes to Mogden and when the site can’t process quickly enough it is channeled directly to the 12 storm tanks to await processing. One or two minor ‘rain events’ and the storm tanks will overflow so the tanks are emptied and sewage released into the Thames at Isleworth Ait. This is where the dumping is regularly done. Sewage from the north east, south east and east goes to Beckton which also has processing problems so sewage is regularly dumped from their storm tanks into the Thames. Thames Water simply cannot cope with more housing in and around London. Since privatisation they have closed every other treatment works and now only operate two in London. It’s an environmental disaster. One of the very few good things Labour has pledged is to get rid of the toothless and useless regulator OFWAT and come up with something better.
