I wish the answer was so simple, Covid has blown a hole in most western countries who are struggling with similar issues. On the one hand the essential financial support provided during Covid has lead to a massive debt, the NHS did the best job they could during this period but it has exposed how vulnerable the NHS is and has been over many decades. The reality was discussed back in the 80/90s with an aging population, much better medical/ tech interventions, less people working to pay taxes to cover pensions, NHS, social care. Immigration is a challenge because we need vital skills yet struggle with the infrastructure for a growing population. It’s a perfect storm and I don’t hear one politician from any party talking about a vision to address any of the issues. I say again money is not the only answer. The whole structure and societies expectations need to change. |
