I'm sure most people who were aware of the Belmont Road entrance and the Fishers Lane cut through went that way from North Chiswick and it is probably correct to say that the queues on Acton Lane discourage others from a much wider area from going to Sainsbury's. It was certainly our experience that trying to shop there when the changes were first made, even at relatively quiet times became impractical. Now we head north and there is not just the Morrisons car park but also the Oaks which allows 90 minutes free no purchase necessary. We've changed our habits now and wouldn't change back even if Fishers Lane reopened. I don't know for sure what the situation is with the Sainsbury's Chiswick car park but I think it is governed by a covenant which obliges the landowner which was Clerical Medical back when it was originally signed in the eighties but is now Sainsbury's itself. Sainsbury's have drawn up plans to build on the car park which suggests they think that they could get round the covenant (although the fact that these plans were drawn up several years ago and nothing has come of them, could indicate that they can't). If they were to do this it would change the nature of the centre of Chiswick profoundly and probably be terminal for many businesses who are just about hanging on at the moment.
