| I just got a "Witness Appeal" (note) put through my door by the local police notifying of a burglary on Dukes Avenue "on Wednesday 21st November between 1 and 8 in the morning". It had a crime reference number on it. They were asking for anyone who heard or saw anything, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to contact Chiswick police. I was at home that night and was wakened by the doorbell, sometime between 3 and 4 am (I was still half-asleep, so can't be sure of the exact time). Anyhow, when I went to the door, there was no-one there, though I thought I heard something (not voices, or a vehicle). I think this must be connected. People should be vigilant, and should they hear/have heard anything similar in the vicinity, no matter how trivial, make sure to report it. P.S. The telephone for Chiswick Police given on the Appeal was not working. I phoned Crime Stoppers, whose freephone number 0800 555 111 was also on it, but they were no help either, though they did suggest I phone 101 (a Met number?). I did so, but all they could do was put me through to Hounslow police. I relayed my information to the guy who answered, who seemed to appreciate the call, before disclosing that it wasn't his area either, though he said he would pass it on to the relevant department. What a palaver! |
