Agree with messrs Hickman & Hearn. A year ago I was lobbied by an SCR resident (with offstreet parking) who suggested a CPZ for SCR. My response was that if it was down to me I'd have a yellow line instead. Not that I claim to be a traffic expert, because the balloon analogy applies - squeeze one part, see it pop up elsewhere. However SCR is a major route and buses and cycles have to be supported equally. What we really need is proper traffic assessment for GP; with its current status as one of the (mostly) CPZ-free areas in London, it has a special character, but is also, as many have pointed out, open to abuse. Similarly, not that I am an apologist for estate agents, a friend of mine is selling their house and was told that a major draw for potential purchasers is the lack of a CPZ. (Before others contradict me, I also acknowledge that for some persons moving from, say, Kensington & Chelsea, they are used to CPZs and prefer them). That's why it takes an open mind, which an accredited, impartial, traffic survey would help inform. |
