Talking about no further reductions being imminent, I suppose I can't hope that the proposal to keep the quota the same until 2017 might not be changed in the light of the Phase II consultation ? After all, decisions aren't made until the consultation responses have been studied thoroughly, are they ? Browsing through the minutes of the Heathrow Airport Consultative Committee (HACC) for their meeting on 29th January 2014, I was worried by a comment made by Mr. Tim May of the Department for Transport in response to a discussion about the Night Flights Restrictions Consultation. http://lhr-acc.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/2014Min29JanB.doc Cllr. Beer (Windsor) had mentioned that in 2004, the then Government had made a commitment to work towards achieving the World Health Organisation target for night noise by 2030. [ And he then argued that not to taper noise down towards this level in the next regime would mean that much more drastic changes would be needed in future regime periods.] The minutes then say : "Tim May responded that with regard to the WHO target commitment this was made by the previous Government and he did not know of the status this had as existing Government policy." If he doesn't know, shouldn't someone tell him ? |
