"The implication thus far seems to be that the 'upgrade' that is being referred to with regard to Turnham Green is for signals rather than train stock so 2018 (maybe) rather than 2023 (maybe). " Although any 2018 TG stop date depends on Piccadilly trains being fitted with new signalling systems three years before they start to be withdrawn, even if the date doesn't slip. We know the old torn up contract included Piccadilly trains, we don't yet know whether the re-let one does. It would make some sense to split the resignalling into two phases, one 2018 for District and one 2021+ for Piccadilly, simply to derisk the delivery of the former and avoid the waste of money re-equipping trains you're about to scrap. The most heartening thing is the recognition that an all-day stop at TG has positive advantages for LU rather than being a bunch of noisy west Londoners kicking off. |
