I have little doubt that at best, Boris & Co are spinning this for all they're worth, if not outright lying about it (at worst) - they're Politicians, after all. But as someone who has used the Tube regularly for 30 years+ to/from West London, one thing seems clear to me. Which is for all that the process may be inefficient, costly and unduly delayed etc, at least the present Mayor's Administration is addressing the chronic need for Modernisation and Enlargement of the whole Tube system. Contrast that with his predecessor, Ken Livingstone, who was seemed primarily concerned with subsidising Fares, and to Hell with the Service, presumably for short-term Electoral gain. For example, the Escalators whose replacement will necessitate the closure of the interchange at Embankment are 80 (EIGHTY) years old! Which afaik is hardly that much older than some of the trains and signalling on the Piccadilly and District Lines, whose updating or replacement is taking so long in Chiswick and beyond. |
