"As for timings, they're trying to do in 100 days what took 640 days on the last contract - move from inviting tenders to contract award for one of the most complicated resignalling problems in Europe." Yes, but - - they've already done it once, so they should be able to move faster this time, - "little or no product development for deployment on the SSR" effectively means one of the two modern systems that have already been proved in live service on the LU network. It's basically a choice between: - the Thales SelTrac system that took a lot of work to become effective on the Jubilee, but has recently been going in much more smoothly on the more complex Northern Line, or - the Siemens (ex-Westinghouse/Invensys) DTG-R system that has been very effectively deployed on the Victoria Line. This was the system that Metronet planned to install on the sub-surface lines, and the new S-stock trains were designed with interfaces to the system. The fact that LU have live experience of installing and using both these systems must surely help to speed up the whole process compared to the attempt, misguided with hindsight, to get a cheaper deal than the one that Metronet had planned with their partner Westinghouse. |
