"someone points out that someone is spinning they get accused of cynicism." I suspect it's more being made to look credulous in public, actually. No one likes being shown to be a fool. On a related subject, this investigation into a recent PR stunt by our beloved Prime Minister is well worth a look: http://legalaidandme.proboards.com/thread/8301/audacity-cameron-hypocrisy-help-buy?post-20923=undefined If I'm cynical, bear in mind that I was born in 1974, which means I've had Thatcher and Blair and their assorted Murdoch fellating spin doctors running the country for much of my life and have since watched the press completely fail to point out that the current Mayor of London is a demonstrable, repeated, blatant liar. Political cynicism and a desire to find out what's behind the PR is, I suggest, an entirely natural reaction to all that rubbish. Having said that I do have to say that even I was shocked by the sheer depravity of the Help to Buy photo op story above (in short: 'single mum helped buying first house by lovely Government' turns out to be 'married estate agent who *works for the agents selling the flat* who's also well off enough to afford a BMW convertible'). |
