'when the Piccadilly is at peak capacity it can't do it; when it is running fewer trains in the off-peak, it can' It doesn't really have anything to do with capacity, the issue is timetabling. Gaps in the service in the busier central sector can be filled by the ability to deliver trains in quickly from large stretch of the line between Acton Town and Hammersmith. A TG stop would reduce this ability but as Richard Jennings and CCF have pointed out TfL have reduced the number of trains on the Piccadilly line per hour making the signalling inadequacies less relevant. As for any likely delay due to getting rid of Bombardier, the decision to get rid looks more like a mark of determination on TfL's part to meet their deadline. Obviously there is no guarantee that they will but it looks to me like Thomas Barry is engaging in wishful thinking when he claims this will put back the upgrade by several years. |
