Here is the press release that TfL issued on this: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/29299.aspx Reading between the lines Bombardier have been canned because they were struggling to meet the deadline and TfL are switching to someone else who can. Thomas Barry, in his relentless determination to be negative on this issue, is concluding that this means that the upgrade will be a decade late but this doesn't make a great deal of sense. The opposite conclusion that an ontime delivery remains a priority and a strong possibility at this stage seems to be confirmed by the information Thomas Barry himself gives about funding expiring in 2018. Not sure it matters that much anyway because if this part of the upgrade is not deliver we won't be getting an improved District line service either and with Crossrail due to take pressure of the Piccadilly line from 2018 the argument for a much increased if not full service at Turnham Green gets stronger in either scenario. |
