Hi Andy I’m going to sound awfully geeky here: The bus stop sign post is an “instruction” to bus drivers as to where to stop their buses. Unless prevented from doing so, the drivers should stop with their front door immediately past the post. The post was relocated back from the junction several months ago and by and large the drivers stop where they should, but a few seem to prefer to stop closest to where people are waiting for the bus, which is a nice sentiment but contrary to their instructions. There was no plan to shorten the bus stop clearway as to do so would have required burning off the paint and a new traffic order to facilitate a short section of double yellow line ahead of the clearway, with No Loading plates, otherwise you’d have Sunday parking there. Incidentally, re the long-awaited shelter: in Auckland (NZ) about 30 years ago a commuter was so incensed with the refusal of the transport authority to provide a shelter at a busy town centre stop that he rocked up one Sunday with a car and trailer and a load of old wood, and built his own. The transport authority had it demolished the following week and hey presto a new shelter was provided immediately afterwards. Now, who’s got some timber, a trailer, a saw and hammer and a couple of spare hours? :-) |
