M&S has been charging for years and saved lots of money which I believe they donated to charity. Sainsbury opted for the incentive of giving points for re-using bags. South Africa has also been charging for bags for 15 years and more and this has done wonders to clean up their streets and the 'Transki flags' - shreds of plastic bags flying off the barbed wire fencing. All companies making plastic items such as bags, bottles, lighters, etc. worldwide should be made to pay a tariff and the money used to clean up the floating plastic trash circling round the Pacific polluting and killing the seabirds and whales, etc. |
