Only downside of seeing a GP and going NHS is (as always) the amount of time you have to wait to see someone. Even then (s)he may not be local. If the problem is serious, then you can get bumped up the queue.

If you friend has some money then seeing a private counsellor may be the way to go. Costs do, of course, vary but there are a number local to Chiswick and surrounding districts. I wouldn't want to recommend anyone in particular but suggest that googling a practioner can be a way to go.

Your friend should note their qualifications and how long they have been counselling. They usually also say which method they use - CBT or whatever. I suggest one of the more recognised methods. CBT is certainly one.

There may also be a preference for a male or female counsellor.

I hope (s)he manages to address whatever the problems are. Good luck.

Please note that here I refer to a counsellor. As another post suggested, a therapist may be appropriate.
