Wow - quick work. I was told that they had been discontinued for four months. Does this mean I don't need to send this? "Yesterday a friend of mine who was staying with me, had lost her case and we needed to buy her some spare underwear - or to be more specific knickers. Of course our first port of call was M&S Chiswick but we were informed that for the last few months these were no longer sold at the store. We then tried about 5 other places, who likewise did not sell them. I posted the issue on the ChiswickW4 forum and within less than 24 hours have attracted nearly 40 postings and more are still coming in. http://www.chiswickw4.com/default.asp?section=community&app=forum/ShowMessage.asp?ID=649766&site=1 While some were inevitably humorous in content, the main points emerged: - people do not want to go as far as Primark, M&S Hammersmith, and certainly not Westfield to get their knickers especially in emergencies. - knickers are essentials and people need them. Well maybe not everybody, but most. - there is one luxury shop in Chiswick which sells very expensive ones, but that is not what most people want. - M&S are firmly associated in the public's mind with underwear and convenience- this association has been built up for over 100 years, so to alter this, comes as a major jolt to people. I fully appreciate that there may have been some serious analysis in making the decision to make other use of your shelf space. I can understand that you don't want people to go to another supermarket to buy their favourite washing powder or catfood. But by the same token the sale of essential items like underwear is what makes M&S unique and special and people rely on it. They may only buy the odd pair but it is what makes them decide to come to you rather than go elsewhere. Please bring back some basic underwear for men and women. If you don't feel you can do this, then please make sure that this decision is properly publicised in the media so that people are aware of it, and so you can explain the fact and the reasons publicly. I am sure it would arouse a great deal of interest and debate." Yours etc |
