your existing system is a storage system - unreliable water supply meant that you had to store 50 gallons in the roof space. Pressure to the showers came from gravity - hence the need for pumps to get the higher pressure and flow rates. Water is considred so reliable now that you no longer need storage, and pressure and flow can come from the mains supply - hence the reason you can lose the pumps and tank. Disadvantage is the cost - you should upgrade the incoming water main to 25mm, install the megaflow and pressurise the heating and water system - there is a cost to all of this as the joints on the old heating may pop unless you replace. The other potential disadvantage is if the water pressure drops to the 1bar minimum that the water authority has to provide - as mos taps and showers require 3 bar to perform. But this has not happened in the 15 years I have been specifying these systems for clients. Going for a gravity fed system is OK but the back-up scenario described is not the reason to do it - loads of tank fed systems have broken down! There are loads of makes of tank - megaflow being one of th ebest known. You need a qualified plummer for a pressurised system and building regulations approval as they need to be installed correctly or they can cause serious injury. James |
