Does anyone remember how many lime trees there were in Essex Place (small street that runs past the entrance to Sainsbury's goods depot, comes out at Acton Lane) before being demolished, preparatory to new town houses being built along that road. These houses remain unbuilt. One problem, so I understand, was that children/people would be kept awake by Sainsbury's' delivery vehicles. Another problem was that of insufficient space for the artic's to turn into the goods yard. Also, that the houses would need to have aircon, in order to deal with the noise and pollution created by the lorries. To date, no sign of those houses being built. A couple of nice, small trees have been built at the entrance to Essex Place, in front of the (relatively new) low-rise block, built on the corner. Looks as if the rest of that row of shops is about to go, given that C P Hart is moving out.
