| Elections are coming up in Israel and Netanyahu pledged total victory. But the war with Iran hasn’t delivered either the final military aims nor the support he wanted from electors whether from the left or right. So better to carry on bombing Lebanon to eliminate the enemy and few will care how many innocents are killed or maimed in the process. As always there are wrongs on both sides but Israel is by far the stronger power and any comparison of deaths are seriously one sided. And it’s not as if Israel has abided by previous ceasefires eg during the ‘ceasefire’ in January 25 when to give just one example the IDF opened fire on unarmed displaced Lebanese civilians killing 26 and injuring many more. Many in Israel want to occupy Southern Lebanon (up to the litani river) for the long term then annex it so it eventually becomes part of Israel. They see this war as an opportunity to do so. |
