| I was told that you need to keep moving and try not to start or keep on sitting! I think this is why some time ago there were a lot of desks that you perched at or stood at rather than sat at. I don't think I've ever rested by "putting my feet up" as is sometimes suggested. I find it impossible to get anything done like that and it's just so incredibly uncomfortable! However because I had a fall 9 years' ago after catching my foot on a rocking paving stone I do have difficulty with one knee which never recovered and I expect will never recover and will probably get worse. The street vendor had seen two or three people trip in the same place that day but other than me I don't believe anybody else bothered to notify the Council (Oxford City Council). The shop outside whose premises I fell just looked at me as if I had landed from Outer Space when I suggested that they report the pavement problem outised their shop to the Council. Luckily since Oxford use www.fixmystreet.com (or did then) and it was easy to report as a visitor to Oxford. Some never manage to get up after their fall. I was helped up and felt OK - but it has been life-changing. Just try carrying a squirming toddler up any stairs! Please please COMPLAIN about dodgy kerbstones and paving stones and cars, vans and lorries that drive over pavements they shouldn't be on and REPORT these problems to Councils so that more people don't have to suffer in the same way. |
