One issue to bear in mind is that most ATMs are free because the major banks don't charge each other interchange fees to use each others machines. If some banks are significantly winding down their branch network, the balance of this arrangement may be upset. There is a cost to Nationwide to running this service which is probably now mainly being used by Lloyds and Natwest customers.
