I would get at least three quotes, as you would for any major piece of work, including deciding on an estate agent who has much less training.  Make sure you understand the breakdown and quiz them on the detail.  That said, having had an architect friend for many years, I don't think they are paid the fees their qualifications warrant, compared to other professions. And, as always, cheapest is not necessarily the best.
