If you ever have cause to use the Dukes Avenue or Dukes Road exits onto the High Road I’d suggest looking at the detail plans because they are going to result in some very significant changes if CS9 proceeds. The deadline for responses is looming. The Duke Road exit looks extremely dangerous. There is a bus stop that will obscure the view of oncoming traffic and that of vehicles emerging from Duke Road. The keep clear box will mean that traffic on Chiswick High Road passing a bus at the stop by the junction will see a road clear ahead but will have the view of any cars emerging from Duke Road obscured particularly as they will be waiting behind the cycle track. Turning right at this point will be extremely difficult and almost impossible in heavy traffic because you have to cross a keep clear junction box but almost immediately have another one on the opposite side of the road. This is a tricky junction as it stands but the changes make it a lot worse and the volume of traffic emerging from it will double because you will no longer be allowed to exit from Dukes Avenue. It is hard to see the suggested configuration not resulting in significant tailbacks along Duke Road and back into Dukes Avenue when traffic is relatively heavy. This will mean increased congestion in residential streets. One possible solution would be to signalise the junction but you already have three potential stop points in a short distance at this point and the concept of a ‘superhighway’ has become a bit strained. |
