Battle has begun again over the Council replacing paving stones with asphalt in Dukes Avenue. According to the Front Page: "The replacement of paving stones with tarmac was a major controversy in Chiswick three years ago and residents, supported by local councillors, won their battle against the Council's attempt to tarmac over the pavements... " How well we remember this "victory". An official from Hounslow Highways came to meet us. We were assured that the asphalted areas around trees would be reduced in size, that missing kerb stones ripped up during the asphalting would be replaced, and that residential side-paths, now inches lower than the new asphalt, would be remedied. Not a word since. Not a workman to be seen. All complaints to Hounslow Highways steadfastly ignored. And Cllr Peter Thompson, for all his ready interviews with the Press, fails to answer letters on the subject. My advice to residents in Dukes Avenue is not to believe a word of it until the work is actually done. |
