One of the things we discovered through the Railways for All programme is that often what looks relatively simple becomes increasingly complicated once you start digging into Victorian/Edwardian foundations and brickwork. The other thing to consider is that track possession is required. This would mean closing the line for many months at weekends and in the evening. Now, none of this means that it would be impossible to make Turnham Green accessible but the return on investment would be quite difficult to justify. As others have pointed out there are nearby stations that can be accessed by a short bus journey. I would personally love to see all stations on all transport modes become accessible across all impairment groups. As Harold Wilson said 'politics is about priorities' and have a strong suspicion that this would not be a priority when set against other needs. |
