I will always remember these lines delivered in his impeccably fruity and chilling tones: "That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas." High Camp, and close to pantomime in style (at least in Robin Hood: Prince of thieves) but always quintessentially English. I saw him live once in Noel Cowards "Private Lives". He stole the show effortlessly but somehow he also made everyone around him shine. |
