The woman interviewing mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith this morning on the Today programme really excelled her self.

Full marks for interrupting and speaking over the interviewee, failing to listen to his answers and for continuing to pursue a line of questioning that made no sense at all - what on earth has Zac's views (and indeed those of his long dead father for goodness sake) on the EU referendum got to do with his bid to become Mayor? If a mayoral candidates views on the EU referendum are important why was Citizen Khan NOT asked this question the day before and of course we would all really like to hear what his Dad's views on the EU referendum were?

Few if any of the interviewer's questions dealt with what Zac would do if elected Mayor in May. In contrast Khan was allowed to set out his stall with little of the interruption and "sledging" that Zac was subjected to. Hands up any of you at the back who did not know that Zac has promised since before he was elected as an MP that he would resign as an MP if permission was given by a Conservative Government for a third runway at Heathrow. Why did the interviewer think that this was some major revelation? Who on earth (apart from this interviewer) would expect him to resign as a newly elected Mayor if the Government decided to allow a third runway at Heathrow?
