| After a lifetime as a television producer I thought I knew most of the dodges. But I was staggered to hear -from someone actually involved - that the annual Jools Holland BBC New Year show, complete with the countdown to midnight, then drunken onlookers hugging and kissing and wishing each other a Happy New Year - that it was all recorded on an October morning. Made worrse by seeing Jeff Beck complete with wig and girdle, pretending to be 20-something again. Illusions shattered. |
