We don't always have space for it - or want it hanging around for weeks. I like a weekly collection. I don't put my residual waste which stays in the dustbin outside out for collection for weeks on end but I do put recycling out every week. It means that if for some reason I'm not around and a collection is missed it can go out the next week. The trouble with a fortnightly collection is that if you miss it one week you'll end up with it for a month (except weekly food waste - but I've reduced that dramatically by finding new ways of cooking and storing. I also freeze a few leftovers eg bread crusts for future toppings and yoghurt reaching its use by date). There is a company called Knowaste applying for planning permission to build a nappy, sanitary towel, and incontinence pad recycling plant in Hayes but unless the Councils change their views on these and the clinical waste definition I presume their feedstock would come from institutions. |
