Friend had one bank account and a credit card wiped out last weekend at the same time. Was a little strange as the credit card had not been used for about 3 months and then it was on line. Both were used on-line in one day. Bank did not pick up on anything which maybe down to large transactions around this time of year. I have told the person to check the transactions on the credit card which were on-line and if one of them is also where the debit card was also used at some point. Just convinced that the fraud lay on-line and the site had been hacked or within. I think its about time that the big companies get fined for every time they are hacked and information is lost whatever the severity of that info. This will give them a kick up the back side to take it more serious and spend more on better security. Its a problem that is getting more and more likely to happen these days. If you do not have adequate security or keep on top of the latest security available or patching the loop holes in the system its a case of when. I once took my laptop with me to Queensway to use while the kids do some ice skating. First thing i did was look for an open WiFi connection. Found one but was curious to the name so looked to see if i could find out more and within a minute was in their system looking at everything. Turned out to be a bureau de change with files containing credit card numbers, names everything you would want. Sent a note to their printer and logged off as i kind of had everything in transactions but no business name without diving more into their system. Must had been a lapse as i cant believe such a place would not be blind to open sharing, but you never know. |
