It could be argued more coherently that the vacuum created by the removal of Saddam without any plans for future reconstruction of Iraq, the loss of US-supplied weapons by the Iraqi army, the support of the Wahabi Saudis to all Sunni groups opposing the Iraqi and Syrian governments, the historic failures of the West to support the Kurdish right to self=determination, and the constant attempts of the West to dislodge Assad by supporting any and every group who opposed his regime, have all contributed to the rise of Daesh. Just as the US created the Taliban to fight the Russians in the past. Lessons learnt in the last 30 years - nothing! |
