Not sure your age Ian and i am trying not to be possibly rude, but for the older generation i can see that popping into a bookmakers is part of your routine and fully understand that something you enjoyed has been taken away, but it is all change as Corals and Ladbrokes merge to become one.

Corals have been struggling and the on-line arm of corals is pretty dire and without a merger would have struggled.

As to the high street and on-line sports betting i am in favour of closing all high street bookmakers. Lets not forget that they survive on FOBT machines and offer nothing to the punter whatsoever. I would rather call them mini casinos rather than a bookmaker or Turf accountant. While you enjoyed having a few bets like the pools and a few horse races they themselves get nothing from that. They are not even interested in entertaining you on horse racing bets, that is unless its virtual racing

With BET365 established on-line and the possible merger of paddy power and Betfair which dictates the market online and on course its only time before the likes of Corals and Ladbrokes shut more and more shops and if more tax was to be imposed on those machines more will close.

Hills closed in TGT because the premises was up for renewal and the rent could not be met with the turnover of the FOBT machines.

I am afraid technology has taken over and the younger generation have no reason to enter a bookmakers with everything in the palm of the hand. And most who want to have a good bet on a horse in a bookmakers will be limited in stakes or bet refused.

The end story for high street bookmakers is either the FOBT machines make a shop profitable or that shop will shut its doors for good.
